Our Story

“Vegan Restaurant of the year” - “Best in Vegan cuisine” - “Best of best 2021”

A positive impact on animal, environmental and human welfare. You know The important stuff!

From our own kitchen BA-HA was born in 2018. We had the absolute pleasure of feeding you our creations at 1000 Trades in the jewellery quarter, Birmingham.

The beginning, where it all started.

Continuing, BA-HA then collaborated with various independents across Birmingham. In 2019 took residency at Churchills at The Mailbox before sadly closing its doors during lockdown in 2020.

Every cloud has its silver lining though, right? CORRECT!

We had the support over lockdown from friends, family and fellow independents in Brum inspiring us to push our boundaries furthermore!

From tasting menus at Little Blackwood in Mosely, street food in a barber shop, private catering, Pop up at cocktail bar Pineapple Club and seeing our first food truck hitting the road to Vegan Camp Out! Thank you for all your support, you know who you are, ya legends!

BA-HA has become the proud winner of awards such as the “Vegan Restaurant of the year” “Best in Vegan cuisine” and “Best of best 2021” in UK restaurants on TripAdvisor.

We have met wonderful people over the years, even stars such as Hollywoods Kevin Smith, R&b star Myá, American Rock band Tool, Grammy artists Rodrigo y Gabriela, athletes, Ru Pauls Queens and of course our incredible guests. You, reading this now! We adore you!

Meet Frankie & Becky

Meet Frankie Heekin and Becky Powell, Co Founders and couple behind BA-HA.

We both worked in hospitality for years and found that veganism had so much more to offer with so many creations just waiting to happen!

After meeting in 2013, we continued to work in hospitality struggling with meat based environments after making the decision to go vegan. We wanted to create a safe space and a work life balance for our team. We believe it's very important maintain a healthy well being and to keep the love of the kitchen alive!

Our love for food was strong, it was a simple decision to get cooking and build something special to make a positive impact on animal welfare, environment and of course our health. Especially as we love sports and dance!

Do we dance in the kitchen still to this day...

of course!

Our mission is to inspire with food! This is only the beginning.

A sustainable and humane living future pending...

BA-HA style!

Ba-Ha

Uisce beatha, (ish-ka ba-ha) literally translates to "water of life", it is also the name for whiskey in Irish. (Frankie is Irish and enjoys a dram, stereotype much?)

The name Beatha is also a girl's name of Irish origin meaning "life, livelihood". (Frankie met Becky in 2013 and started their vegan journey, creating a passion and livelihood serving Humane food)

BA-HA … it’s all connected.

Our impact

on the planet

Animal Welfare

Eating humane food is the best you can do to stop animal cruelty. Let us end the suffering, Did you know that there is no nutritional need for animal products once adopting a balanced and totally delicious vegan diet? Moooove over meat, dairy and eggs!

Environmental

studies have show that a vegan diet has a much lower carbon, water and ecological footprint. Our connection with what is on our plate plays a huge part. Think local.. it ain't all tofu and avocados, all day, everyday!

Health

Vegan good has many benefits...

It can be rich in nutrition, reduces our risk of cancers, diseases and ill health and can boost your mood to name just a few!

No Waste

Creativity is a wonderful thing and when you have fantastic produce too good to throw away...what do we do? We consciously adapt to what is available, get together and get cooking! Something magical can from such moments and hey, no waste!
